HONORING THE SOLDIERS                                    By Gerri Greene

The flowers are in bloom in this field. That is their way of honoring the unknown soldier in this grave. The salute and the planes flying over, they too are a way of honoring the unknown soldier. These soldiers, whether it is a male or female,  fought and died for their country. Their family should be proud of them for that. The entire nation should be proud of them for that. After all, because of them, we have many freedoms. We can worship in this country, we can express ourselves in this country and we have the right to make many many choices on our own in this country. Do we stop and think of how we got to this point? How we got all the freedoms that we have in this country? It is because we have a field, a church cemetary, cemetaries where only soldiers are buried, family grave sites as well as other places where an unknown or known soldier is buried. Ever wonder how many unknown soldiers are buried in a strange place where they were killed? I bet there are many unknown soldiers in a number of war torn countries. Do we honor them by blaming them because they fought in a war that was not of their making and probably not of their choosing? Many was drafted into the war and others served because of pride in their country and wanting to protect the people living in their country. Why should we not honor them? Why do we show them hatred instead of love? Why do we spit on them and curse them for fighting to protect us? I don't know about you but I am very grateful for all that the men and women that make up our nation's armed forces have done for me. I will honor the graves of the unknown and the known soldiers and honor the living soldiers as well. After all, war is not a game that people want to play and it will not be forgotten by the living, the honored dead or the unknown soldiers where ever they may be. So let us all pray for the soldiers all over the world whether they are still involved in wars now or not? They ALL honored us by giving us our freedoms so why can't we honor them?
